Americana Week
This January, Christie’s New York will start the new year with Americana Week, a group of three auctions that speak to themes of American beginnings, patriotism, diversity and influence. The series begins with the Outsider Art sale that highlights exceptional artists such as Bill Traylor, Henry Darger and William Edmondson and includes property from The William-Louis Dreyfus Foundation. Chinese Export Art Featuring the Tibor Collection, Part II showcases Chinese Export porcelain, specifically famille rose soldier vases, covers, and court lady candleholders. The Important American Furniture, Folk Art and Silver auction closes the week with an array of extraordinary artworks and objects, ranging from the Gould Family Queen Anne carved walnut high chest-of-drawers, a portrait of George Washington and Edward Hick’s Peaceable Kingdom to a cigar store figure of ‘Punch’ and prominent silver pieces from historic manufacturers such as Gorham and Tiffany & Co.
Viewings begin with the Outsider Art sale opening on 11 January at our Rockefeller Center galleries with the remaining two auctions, Chinese Export Art and Important American Furniture, Folk Art and Silver, opening on 15 January.
